As we’re a teeny little blog that’s churned out a mere handful of articles since the Halloween season ended, we’re a little surprised that we were invited to be special guests at Trillium Performing Arts’ Women in Horror Recognition Month event, Saturday Night (un)Dead next Saturday in Lewisburg. At least, I was. Special guest? Me??? Surely someone deserves it more than me! Then I remembered that we’re awesome and we do all sorts of awesome horror-related things like gorelesque burly q performances, creepy photo shoots and art classes, movies and writing…pretty much anything we can get our bloody little paws on. So I squished all those stupid butterflies in my stomach, dammit, ’cause half the state can draw me naked from memory and I’ve already watched Twin Peaks twice this year; I’m ready for anything. How about a Women in Horror Recognition Year?
It’s March! You know what that means? It means all the hearts-and-flowers-estrogen-celebratin’-hey-ladies-work-in-horror-too!-Women-in-Horror-Month is about to be punted out the window like that butterface you dragged home from the bar last night.
Before you get all bent out of shape and start calling the horrorfullife gals a bunch of misogynists biting the hand that feeds them (as we will be guests at Lewisburg’s Saturday Night Un-Dead next weekend, a Women in Horror Month event despite the date), let me explain. I love Women in Horror Month. I don’t love that it has to exist. And I don’t love what happens when it’s over. Continue Reading →
The Burning: Slashtastic 80′s Horror
Lately I’ve had the kind of craving that only a good slasher flick can satisfy. To give myself some relief, I went through quite a few flicks that hold special places in my heart, but no dice. I needed something new and fresh–to me anyway–so I decided to put my feelers out to find the perfect release.
I turned to the social mediaverse for help and consistently received the recommendation of The Burning. I couldn’t say no to a suggestion from those whose cinematic tastes are strikingly similar to mine, and believe me, I was not disappointed. Continue Reading →
Slithered Right Into My Heart!
Due to my former aversion to creature features, I was a little slow in getting around to watching Slither. Even knowing it was a firmly tongue-in-cheek flick, it took me far too long. So I’m a procrastinator–these things happen. Continue Reading →
Date Night with The Tall Man
Date night at home can sometimes be a difficult undertaking. The man and I were craving some good horror fun and cuddles the other night so we turned to Redbox. After searching through every movie the box had to offer, we couldn’t really find anything we could agree on. After my absolute refusal to settle for something else, i.e. The Dictator (not really my cuppa), we decided to ask our trusty pal Netflix for some help. Continue Reading →
October Gets Sinister!
There is no shortage of horror films available in the great month of October. For that, I’m extremely thankful. The recent box office drought was seriously beginning to affect my happiness. Continue Reading →
The Cabin in the Woods…An Amusing Retreat
What would you do if the fate of the world rested on ensuring a proper sacrifice? That’s a question Joss Whedon (Television’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) seek to answer in their collaboration The Cabin in the Woods. Continue Reading →
Box Office Thrills and Chills
October is a special month for us at horrorfullife.com. This should come as no surprise. The leaves are changing, Halloween décor is proudly displayed, and horror movies are taking over the box office. Continue Reading →
The Possession: You Had Me from Hell…o
Elle took me out on my version of a romantic date last weekend – that means we went to see a horror movie with a lot of female-centric themes (it’s an election year, we can’t quit talking about women’s bodies!) and I sneaked in about twenty bucks worth of junk food. The Possession had me from hello – exorcism films are my number one favorite subgenre of horror, has been since I saw The Exorcist in middle school. Sometimes they’re great, mostly they’re crap, but I keep crawling back. I’ve been sewing pasties until my hands bled (seriously, my eczema is driving me nuts and I have a huge crack in my palm. Let’s not delve too deeply into the potential interpretations of that, okay?) so it took me until now, the film’s third week in theaters, to tell you guys you’d be an ass to miss this flick.
