Dark Moon Sanctuary

Angie Russell of Heart of Appalachia Roller Derby and Penny's Monster Baby!

Last night was a great night at Dark Moon Sanctuary!  Crowds went through the home to wayward monsters, and they all passed by this Wayward Girl!

Tonight we’re playing hooky to check out the Psycho Path at Valley Park, behind the Wave Pool in Hurricane.  We don’t know the admission, but we’ll update you!  It runs October 14-15, 21-22, and 28-29.  It was great last year and we know it’ll be a hit again!  Especially since we’re reviewing some spooky beer before we hit the haunted trail – winky face!

Upcoming Events: October 13-16

Guys and Ghouls, tomorrow is the debut of Dark Moon Sanctuary, Kanawha Players’ first haunted offering!  Admission is $8, a dollar off with a non-perishable food item, and the show runs Thursday 7 pm to 10 p, Friday and Saturday 7 pm to 12am.  If you want to act in the haunt, please show up an hour before doors open.

The Winfield Haunted Barn is open this Saturday as well!  Tickets are $7, and the haunt comes highly recommended.

Before you leave Charleston for the Barn, head over to the West Side (Bigley Ave between Washington and Pennsylvania) and check out OktoberWest from 4 to 8 pm.  Tickets are $25, but you get all the food and drinks you want – and trust me, you want this!  Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale and Morgantown Brewery Octoberfest – and Miller Lite, if you prefer.  The Poor Taters will be playing some music too, I hear.

Whenever you wake up on Sunday, get a good breakfast, grab your sketchbook and a sixer and head back to Kanawha Players for the monthly meeting of Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School!  Penny and Elle are appearing with the fabulous Cait Cool and Sarkany for a night of dames, drinking and drawing, with makeup fx by the sterling Adam Edwards and Sarkany.  Art stars and noobs alike are welcome at the Zombie Pin-Up Extravaganza!  $8 advance, $10 at the door!

Creep on Creepin’ On!

Yesterday was the kickoff for Milton’s annual pagan celebration of the pumpkin.  If you haven’t made it down yet, you still have two days to check out music, crafts, everything you can possibly make a pumpkin into and a bunch of mean ass birds.  The most horrorful event?  Toddler beauty pageant.  Ugh.

Tsubasacon takes Huntington by storm this weekend.  Some very lovely art models from Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School will be dressed up as some crazy anime shit at 10 pm tomorrow, so get your ticket already!

There’s a Haunted Barn open in Winfield – it seems it opened last Saturday and no one told us – and you get $1 off the $8 admission price if you bring canned food.

Dark Moon Sanctuary will be open next week, and Kanawha Players would love it if you’d come down and help set up!

Dark Moon Sanctuary is calling to you!

Dark Moon Sanctuary, Ginger Workman

Kanawha Player’s enthusiastic board member, Ginger Workman, has been busy coordinating the most badass haunted house in the Kanawha Valley!  For weeks, droves of dedicated volunteers and talented artist have tramped through the de-consecrated church, planning and preparing for the total-experience in thrills and chills, the Dark Moon Sanctuary!

For the next two weekends – October 13, 14 and 15, and 20 and 21 – you can view the creatures of the sanctuary up close, but until then, come down to Kanawha Players and help build the spooky scenes!  And don’t be shy!  If you’ve dreamed of terrorizing people, well, here’s a way to do it legally!  If you’d just like to act, that’s fine too… Call (304)343-7529 or just show up at 309 Beauregard Street this Thursday at 7 pm.  I’ll see you there!
